Oct. 22, 2005 MARQUETTE - The Lake Superior State volleyball team completed an Upper Peninsula sweep by beating Northern Michigan in five games during a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday. The Lakers improved to 8-18 overall and 5-8 in the GLIAC, and remained in contention for a GLIAC Tournament berth. The came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Wildcats, 30-26, 30-25, 20-30, 17-30, 15-10. Vanessa Vincent led the Lakers with 22 kills, nine digs and four block assists. Amy Molenaar added 11 kills, two block solos and four block assists. Ashlee Buckley finished with 10 kills, while Katy Traylor had 20 digs. Amy Milmine followed with 13 digs, and Jamie Groos had five block assists. LSSU posted a .238 attack percentage, while NMU (11-10 overall, 8-5 GLIAC) finished a .250. LSSU held an edge in service aces with 10 and team blocks with 13.5. The Lakers return home to play Ferris State at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. |
